crafting

Postby skateboy18 » Sat Feb 13, 2010 9:37 pm

i was thinking of downloading this game on the 16th and have a few questions on the crafting.
1. does the lvl of youre character affect how high you can take up crafting like in Perfect World where you get a certian lvl in crafting than you got to lvl the character before you can lvl more in crafting. or can i be a low lvl character crafting high lvl things if i like.

2. in the beta was it easy to find the materials like the rocks for mining and the plants for alchmey or did it take forever to find things.

3. how was the lvling of the crafts, did they take forever to lvl or was it not that bad.

hope you guys can answer my questions.

1. You can only have a crafting level up to ten times your character's level. So a level 5 character (about the lowest I can foresee gaining a craft, more likely 7 or 8) would only be able to get to crafting level 50. (60 at level 6, etc.. up to the maximum crafting level of 400 at the current maximum character level of 40.)

2. Mining and Herbalism harvest points are plentiful, but somewhat spaced out. Still, it really only amounts to pressing Z every so often as you wander the lands doing quests. Disassemblers, on the other hand... *sigh* They have to buy the materials they disassemble (or they can chop up chest and quest rewards, but that's... typically more costly.) and have very limited options as to what they can chop up, so they have a very hard time of it. Crafters get their supplies from Suppliers, and a "key ingredient" from their Craft's Trainer, so it's either the Auction House or mail from an alternate/guildmate/friend and a visit to their trainer in their faction's main city to get what they need.

3. They level extremely quickly. Unless they accelerated it for Closed Beta, it never takes more than five successful craftings or harvestings to gain a skill level in that profession.

In my own personal experience during closed beta I tried blacksmithing. The actual crafting mechanics in this game are interesting and I liked it once I got the hang of it. It was a little confusing at first, but at least it wasn't boring as watching a success or fail bar fill up. It was like a little mini game. The part that I was not impressed with is the actual items that I could craft. It just seemed like it wasn't worth the time and effort to me. I hope that they give the professions in this game some much needed attention, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. Other than that I would have to agree with everything Peasantnaze said. See you in game on Tuesday!!

guess I got one more question I read that you can only do 2 crafts on a character :(

do you guys think that they will ever make it so you can do more than 2 of the crafts on one character?

Rumor has it they're planning on a third profession per character.

But since it takes herculean effort* to get the second profession, you won't be missing a third anytime soon.

*(Hundreds of gold and lots of reputation "grinding" crafting things.)

Then be thankful you get up to eight characters per account and that there are only seven professions. You can try them all out with one character to spare! :P

(And yes, you can always delete the ones that have professions you don't care for later, or just buy the item in-game that lets you "unlearn" a profession.)
