Rune Splitting

So only recently have I learned about this new runic curse BS... I have to say, as a tank I'm pretty ticked off, and I'm not even sure exactly how it works (been looking for a SOLID explanation for some time now...), but I know it has to do with the difference between my defensive and offensive runes? Resulting in a (extremely buggy) curse, that gives me a -30% penalty to any heals I receive. Gee thanks guys, I needed that.
So the remedy I hear, is to have all the same level of runes... (again, thanks for that. :cry: )

Well, I'm not going to spend the money to upgrade all my runes to be the same as my highest rune, tbh I think I would get more bang for my buck if I just wadded up cash money, lit it on fire, and threw it at people.

So, if I can't bring my runes UP a notch, why can't I bring them DOWN? I already spent CCs and Gold dust to merge two runes together, (only to have it screw me over in the long run.) Shouldn't there be a way to undo the merge (also note: for free, since I'm losing out the CCs and gold dust I spent on the merge already, as I expect that would not be refunded), so I can have a more balanced set of runes?

For example take a level 8 rune and split it to make two level 7s... Of course leaving any bound things, still bound...

This might be a nice answer for some of us who are being reamed by this "runic curse" crap that's making tanking a pain. I had my runes long before this curse, and I don't like being penalized for investing. If I have to put up with this curse, then please provide a way to do it.

Not certain, but doesn't rune curse get negated if your defensive runes are higher than your offensive ones? We have tanks going around in much higher defence than offence and they're doing fine, surviving and all that.

Also, you can just try to mess around with runes, so that you have pretty even collective number in defence and offence, that should help.

Runic curse was implemented for a reason.

Observe:

Let's say the opponent has Level 7 Defensive Runes.
Let's say the opponent has a Healer buddy with Level 7 Offensive Runes.
Let's say you have Level 7 Offensive Runes.

When you attack your opponent, your offensive runes virtually "cancel" the defensive runes. I'd go into the math, but for simplicity's sake, it's 100% damage being dealt, the increase is canceled by the reduction.

Now, the healer heals the target. WIthout wound complexity and curse, he heals for 170%, meaning he has an EASIER TIME healing than you do by inflicting damage.

So what does this runic curse do?

It reduces the healing down to 100%, so the healing playing field is balanced as well.

It's not a healing reduction that's meant to make the game harder, it's meant to make the field more even, since in past iterations, healers would just insta-heal since they weren't penalized for outgoing heals.

That's the simple rundown. It makes it so healers also get balanced out when healing against people with runes, so if everyone had equal runes, it would be virtually the same as everyone having no runes in combat, as opposed to the only difference being healers heal for BEAUCOUP more and damage output is the same, meaning excruciatingly long fights.

But when people outrune you, you're still screwed.

It sounds like you're confused.

The rune curse on your character has to do with the difference between your enemies offensive runes, and your defensive runes.

The only time your offensive runes matter is when you're attacking someone else, in which case your offensive runes are compared against their defensive runes. If they have weaker defensive runes than you have offensive, they obtain a rune curse.

The exact calculations of that comparison I'm not sure..

Ok so then how does all this work in a PvE setting, Such as l4? You still get the runic curse. Are you trying to tell me that the monsters are now running around with runes? Something seems to be missing here... :o

at any rate we're way off topic now, the main point of this whole thing is the rune splitting idea. :|

I heard somewhere, not sure if its true or not, that PvE has a flat 30% runic curse

Not quite true. According to unconfirmed information, or a rumor, open world pve mobs have lvl 4 runes at higher levels. Nothing is known about the runes of mobs in A4.
