Installing Add-ons

Postby _erulogos_ » Thu Aug 05, 2010 9:22 pm

Video guide provided by Ciuine:

Detailed instructions can be found below.

This mini-guide assumes you have a clean, working install of Allods Online. It is beyond the scope of a simple one-shot post to troubleshoot issues that arise in add-ons between program versions.

NOTE: In the current version of Allods Online, only the Addons folder should need to be created, and none of the files in the other directories should be removed or replaced (though files can be added to those folders, as long as the files that came with the clean install remain untouched.)

In a fresh Allods install, there should be a \data\Mods\ folder with the pictured contents:

Windows XP
Image

Windows 7
Image

The first step to using add-ons is to make a folder for them, called Addons, like shown here:
Windows XP
Image

Windows 7
Image

Each add-on should go into its own folder within the Addons folder, like so:

Windows XP
Image

Windows 7
Image

NOTE: Some add-on packages will be placed within an addons folder of their own when unzipped. This will not function if moved into the Allods Online \data\Mods\Addons folder shown above, the add-on must be removed from the extra folder so that the directory structure is similar to the picture above.

Now that the add-ons are in place, you still need to tell the game to use them. At the login screen, if everything is in the right place, you should see a button with some gears on it, like this:
Image

Click the button and it should activate, with its background lighting up, like so:
Image

At that point, login, and the add-ons should be working. If they are not, but your folders and login screen look like the final products above, then the issue is likely with the add-on directly, and you should contact the author of the add-on if he is available for support.

thank you for this. you seem to be keeping this subforum alive.

do you think you could post a full list + description of all mods still working in the new 1.1 client?

and what would really be EXTRA RAD of you to do is to zip all those folders up into an archive and upload it to rapidshare or yousendit for me (and others) to download

would be greatly appreciated, playboy!

I don't know of -all- the add-ons that still work, since I don't maintain or use them all.

The add-ons I have a finger in are here:

viewtopic.php?f=55&t=26515
(Minimap and a different style of Zone Change text)

and here:

viewtopic.php?f=55&t=27408
(Add-ons to tell you how much bag space you have free, in verbose and tiny varieties)

Another little add-on that appears to be working is here:

viewtopic.php?f=55&t=27408
(seems simple enough that it is unlikely to break between patches, but I make no promises about it being updated if it does)

Other add-ons can be found at http://ui9.ru though the site is in Russian, and some add-ons may not work in our version due to differences int he add-on API available from region to region (why it is different from one region to the next, I have no idea, but it is.) Also, my minimap is distinct from theirs now (it started based on an older version of theirs, but having checked their most recent version's code, mine now has several bug fixes and features theirs does not, such as handling for moving vendors/quest givers and proper support for quests with multiple markers.)

A few tid-bits I discovered about GuildGui1b. It does work, but some of its features don't as out version of the game doesn't implement them yet. Thankfully, the coder behind it makes sure it has fail-safes for that, so nothing explodes, but we don't get to enjoy things like simple party invites yet (I might find a way to make that work, haven't explored it too deeply other than finding out why it never showed up for me.)

It is a rather educational sort of add-on though. Anyone interested in making add-ons should look through it to pick up a good bit about localization and text handling, such as it is, in Allods add-ons.

I recently tried to do this, as you said, I created an "addons" folder within the mod folder, i then created a "minimap" folder, and then i downloaded the minimap addon...after which i found that the minimap addon was downloaded in the form of a folder...so i deleted the original folder it was in titled "minimap" folder. so i had the file under mod... i then extracted which created another unzipped folder..so i deleted the zipped folder. then i ran allods and i saw no sign of a blue or even yellow gear for that matter. If you know could you tell me what i did wrong, or how to fix it?

If you downloaded a minimap add-on with its own Addons folder, you downloaded an old/wrong version. Check the link up thread a bit, the one I've worked on should be just the minimap folder int he zip file, and should work.

As for the rest, you need to make it look like the description/screenshots. For that add-on it would be something like \data\Mods\Addons\Minimap\ (there should be a Minimap folder in my pics above.)

I would advise never unzipping things directly into your Allods install. Always have a sort of holding pen someplace else that you unzip to, so if add-on authors get creative with folder structures you can adjust things to work.
