Just another Tavern

Postby mlamlah2 » Sat Jul 28, 2012 12:56 pm

The tavern was homey, but sparsely populated. Candles lit the occupied tables and a fire crackled in the fireplace, roasting an animal Craylal did not recognize. Craylal himself was an elf armed and armoured, golden hair flowing down his shoulders, he was handsome but unremarkable, the only other thing that stood out was his left ear, part of which had been cleaved off, probably in some battle.
Weary, he sat down at a table, and signaled for food.

There is no response to the call. The tavern is empty, spare the elf. Always has been, always will be. If you listen very closely, you might think you heard a cricket, but the crickets are all gone too. Not even the tumbleweeds dare to roam between the benches or behind the bar.

But wait! There is some form of life in the corner. Oh, wait. No. That's a Gibberling, dead, half rotted, caught in a rat trap. Damn.

((With all due respect, if you're not a roleplayer and you're not going to add something constructive there is no reason for you to post here. You're allowed to not like roleplaying but that does not mean you have to go out of your way to essentially shut down a page for no other reason than to tell people you don't like what their doing. I'm well aware that the roleplaying section of this forum is dead, but that does not mean it could not be revitalised. There are people on Allods who roleplay, sparse they may be, and i am attempting to help in my own little ways make Allods more friendly towards roleplayers. I did not truly expect roleplayers to jump down my throat to roleplay on this page, it was mostly just an attempt to let potential roleplayers know that yes... we exist here. Part of the reason that roleplaying here is so sparse is because little effort has been made to put together and maintain a community here for some time, another part is that roleplayers are scared off by plain old belligerence. Personally, i think that an active rp community would help out Allods by bringing in a new playerbase, a new playerbase means new players and a larger Allods community. It's okay if you don't like roleplaying, but if you don't then you really should just ignore it instead of going out of your way to hassle those who enjoy it. ))

With (serious) respect:

I admit, what I did was harsh and rude, and for that I apologize. I'm actually very pro-roleplay, I just couldn't resist being a jerk at the moment; in retrospect, it was a very bad prank. A (personally) hilarious one, but a bad one.

That being said, roleplay is actually very nonexistent here in Allods. It's unfortunate, because if it had a larger community, I would partake. I am in fact an avid roleplayer in other venues. My earlier behavior is probably a deterrent, and I didn't consider that when I posted it. I just thought it'd be funny at the time.

And I can never, ever resist a good opportunity for a dead Gibberling joke.

Also in seriousness ::

If you read or follow kahruvel's post you will see he has been role-playing for a long time.
His theme is imperial. This is why you will find a lot of dead gibbs in his writings (click the G3 movement banner in his sig ! )

To what he wrote here, is just a imperial point of view to your story :)
It was neither rude nor mocking. Our game is built this way. If you play empire beginning zones, you will see how we grow up to hate gibbs.

I like to role-play too, but i am kind of shy-ish. Lets take this thread back to topic, so i feel comfortable to drop in a paragraph :)

Soft clicking was heard from the far corner of the tavern. Within the darkness a soft green glow seemed to float in the air, a pair of eyes. Whirling sounds made, something that sounded like pressure leaving a valve was released as the heavy thuds hit the ground, metal against wood. The shadowy silhouette stepped out. The fire granting light over the figure as it emerged. The words behind the porcelain white mask was raspy, muffled, "An elf?...Delightful.." A woman, whose body was greyish, from death. Her body held together by mechanical means. Her heavy foot steps thudded as she made her way along the wooden planks, creaking under the sheer weight of her body. Tubing rand from her chest to her arms and then to her back, as if granting her movement, as well as her legs. They hummed and vibrated, her movement almost robotic with a bit of life to it, perhaps she was not all mechanical. The metal claw fingers racked along the stone walls, giving a nail on the chalk board kind of sound, piercing. Leaning way down to study the elf, the black earrings she wore dangled neck to her cheeks, chiming. A soft glowing green came from them as if radiating with radiation, "Tell me elf, why are you, ..experiments...mmmnn yes..that could be fun indeed."

<my first step in Allods Role Playing. please forgive small mistakes. English is not my first language. My part contains a lot of game elements new and old. Those familiar with them will enjoy i hope.>

The Elf did not reply. He stood up and went close to the window to open it. A gust of wind came inside, carrying a strong smell. The smell of war. He could hear distant clashing of swords. Suddenly something exploded far away. The ground started to shake as it was end of the world. The Elf smiled in sarcasm. "The world ended long ago and we are fighting on its remains" - he said to himself. The tremor subsided soon and it was quiet again. Something in distance caught his eyes. He looked for it eagerly. As soon as he did, the horror of the truth struck him. It was a Imperial Aegis speeding towards the tavern. Only elite commanders were allowed to use those. The elf moved away from the window swiftly. He was looking for a place to conceal himself.

Meanwhile the Arisen Lady was mixing some kind of potion. But she was conscious about everything happening around her.

"He is going to kill you in a blink of an eye you know"- she said to the elf.
"And i am sure you will take good care of my remains won't you?" - he replied.

The arisen looked deep in the elf's eyes. The elf felt a strange discomfort in that sight. As it was looking through him like a frog on a experiment table. He looked away.
The Arisen stood up, her potion was done. She offered it to the elf.
"So how about you drink this sweet thing i just made, tell me if it taste good"
"So i die quicker? Yeah sure". The elf reached out for the potion. He did not care about his life anymore. In fact he did not care about anything at all. The arisen caught him. She touched his face with her steel fingers. They were cold as the rocks of Coldberg. The elf shivered. She said - "By any chance if you survive, will you try not to kill me in return?"

"We shall see" - the elf said and snatched the potion bottle. He drank it. It tasted of Aconite. He started feeling warm and his vision became blurry. The effect was over soon. He felt a bit lightheaded. He looked around to see if he is dreaming or not. Everything was there as before. The sound of the Aegis was much closer. He reached for the wand but it was not there. Actually he could see nothing of himself. It was an invisibility potion he drank.

The door slammed open. The orc stepped in while making small earthquake with each of his footsteps. He had many badges on his shoulder. His Axe had a violent glow on it. The elf could almost feel the blade crushing in his chest, but he stayed calm.

"O hello there, what is the second in command of Yasker Hawks doing in a shady tavern like this, may i ask?" - the orc said in a booming voice.
"Just doing some cleanups, look i found a souvenir for you" - she pointed at the dead Gibberling. The orc laughed really loud. So loud that the tavern started to shake.
He said - "I can swear that my TargetManager device picked up an hostile in the vicinity".

"So you trust that now more than your nose? Come on it was a premature ZEM experiment. Only on Yasker's direct order we had to mass produce it and supply to each and every soldier out there. Most of them do not even have the common sense on how to use it. Your's probably picked up a Gopher. I know its flaws" - she said it all in one breath, if she actually did breath though.

The orc was confused. "The hell with it. The war is over anyway. The explosion a while ago was from Novograd Shipyard. Our Dreadnoughts did some nice bombing on it from the other end of Lightwood. Their means of transportation is crippled badly, all the enemy soldiers are retreating. Tomorrow there will be mass attack on Novograd. I am here to pass on Yasker's order to you." He handed out a letter to the Arisen. She took it, did some kind of scanning with her eyes, then burnt it with a spell.

"You can head back to your business now. And while you go, take that gibberling out of here and use it to bait its remaining family. I will be doing some secret government research here, tell all the soldiers that this area is off limits"

"Will do" - the orc said and headed out. He suddenly stopped at the door and looked back straight at the spot where the elf was standing. He thought something for a moment and left the tavern.

The arisen sealed the door with a June barrier and then faced the elf. He came out of hiding by then.
"So what does the second in command of Yasker Hawk want from me?". The elf was curious. Things were going very interesting and he forgot all about his safety and his home, the war.

The arisen pulled out an Amulet of Renunciation and put it on the table. "The choice is yours" - she said as she walked out.

so this is what roleplaying is o.o
oooooo *hides*
well I'm not really sure if this stuff is usually written in present tense, but I wouldn't mind trying ><

Craylal sneered at the amulet as if it was filth incarnate placed before his eyes.
A moment of fury passed and he was tempted to draw his weapon. This "yasker hawk" could probably be dead with a few swift turns of his blade, he thought.
He turned and headed out of the Tavern to look for her, blade in hand, but she was already gone.

For a while he paced up and down outside, then paused to look back at the entrance.
Within that door, lying on the table was the glimmering amulet. Brand new, ready to be used.
He screwed up his face in disgust at the thought. He was a true league patriot, dedicated fully to his service in the League Army. For him to just forget his life and turn his back on his Nation would be absurd.
He would be missed. He had friends, He had status, he had women, he was respected... wasn't he?

He began pacing again, thoughts of corruption within the league and the lousiness of it's citizens made him almost want to turn away from it altogether.

'If I forget this now and go home what am I returning to? the sleaze and scandal amongst my own people... But I don't even value my own life, I would die a thousand deaths for my precious "league"...

Tensess!! what have I been taught!? what kind of careless mentality has been instilled within me by the army? Why am I fighting a battle with no real cause? what difference would I make to them! they wouldn't care if I left."

He recalled the Orc's words again, he had spoken of a mass attack on Novograd that would take place the next day. He tried not to let the thought that he didn't care slip into his mind. Deep down inside of him a small, evil voice that taunted him spoke:
"They deserve it.

"No. What am I thinking?!"

He looked on towards the sunset as it reflected in his pale eyes, his gold hair drifted in the breeze. Night would fall soon. He had to leave the tavern quickly before any more trouble came his way.
He stepped back inside, it was still empty but with a strange presence as if someone else had been there all along, spying.
He carefully moved towards his table and glared down at the amulet, almost afraid to touch it. On one side, carved intricately was the Kanian Eagle symbol that represented the League.
On the other, a Xadiganian symbol of Prowess. He looked from one side of the amulet to the other, a sense of mystery and fear building up inside him. His heart began to speed up a little, he felt as if just picking it up would be betraying the league for good.
For one wild moment he imagined himself dressed in imperial uniform, completely transformed, a new identity. He wouldn't be in the army, he would travel and teach instead, earning his way up in the ranks by helping the community.

Suddenly a clamoring from just outside the tavern made him jump, the sound of heavy plate and marching and gruff voices calling out to one another filled the air. He quickly grabbed the amulet and hid it in his own armour, then he drew his blade, keeping his eyes fixed on the entrance for whatever was coming.

I'm not a rper, or even a fan of writing. Just liked the story so far and didn't want to see it die. + bored at work yo

The tavern door crashes open. Four Kanian guards dash in, halberds readily aimed at the disorient elf. A large bearded man steps in, the clinging of high prestige medals accompanying him. Cryalal's eyes squint as he searches his mind for a name.

"Young elf, what brings you to this..." The bearded man cuts himself short, he notices the dead gibberling in the dark corner. "Guards! Seize him!" cries the man. Craylal puts up no resistance. "Search the traitor for hidden weapons or communication devices." says the man as he walks out of the tavern.

The guard began to pat him down. Cryalal, who is having a hard time absorbing this, is completely spaced out. "What am I doing here? Why did I come here in the first place? I'm no traitor.." Thoughts cloud his mind as the guard reaches into the spot where Cryalal stored the amulet.
