While some of you are currently enjoying the summer break, our team and fellow developers from Mail.ru aren’t resting! We’re currently working on numerous tasks in order to bring you a very exciting month in September.
Of course we are preparing for the release of our next expansion, but we have decided to use this summer time to also explore some interesting development leads which are yet to be approved, and then implement them in feasible and timely manner.
Among the many aspects we need to cover in order to do this, we first need to meet some technical requirements on the backend, but we were thinking that sharing these options within our communities would provide us with support and feedback. This would help us decide which of these should be prioritized.First priority is to release our next expansion.
Localisation is running at full throttle. QA is scrutinizing every bit of the game content. CMs are already starting to draft our Expansion News. Regarding communication, we’re considering trying out a different approach than our traditional focus on features.
Let me explain it briefly:
So far we’ve been trying to provide large, in-depth and focused features the month before release. We’re still aiming at doing this, but we thought that as most of you would be getting some sun and taking siestas during August, you might enjoy having much shorter, concise production updates between mountain hiking sessions and beach parties.
These little bits should hopefully keep you entertained and allow you to share feedback more freely on narrower, more focused aspects of the game improvements. Next in line is the opening of a subscription-based Server.
We have known for a long time that some of you were interested in this option, and we believe that we now have enough facts to back up that idea. Thanks to the opening of the subscription server in Russia, we can benefit from months of data gathering which has proven it could be a successful venture. We can now assume that even if the majority of players currently prefer f2p over subscription, there is a sufficient community interested in that option to address that demand and still meet population requirements.
Still meeting this population demand safely would require the creation of one unique subscription server, and that’s a particular point which needs to be addressed carefully:
• The same game client must be able to access both types of servers, the free-to-play one and the subscription-based one.
• Introducing subscription payments in our billing tool will require some backend revision that could take some time before reaching this could be implemented correctly. Real life social convention
Last but not least I would like to propose another experience I’d like to share with you. I would like to try to arrange an In Real Life gathering sometime over the coming months – a party for both our team and the community, so we can finally meet in person. All options are plausible at the moment and right now I’m interested to know if you would also be interested in this idea.
If you are however, we’ll have to make a separate topic to discuss modalities and means to achieve such an event.
I’m done typing; it’s your turn now.
To conclude I would like to wish you a great summer and continue having a great gaming experience in Allods Online. Stay tuned for our next expansion articles in the near future!
