I think Special Coins when picked up should just go straight into the currency tab, instead of going into your bag...

OMG YES +1 to this.

It didn't make any sense for a bound currency tab item to go to the bag first instead of going straight to currency tab. Just like the mount feed from the daily Incense quest.
