Over the past few years the role of the warden has changed constantly after being improved and decreased like clockwork with each major patch.
We have been warriors in leather armour, through to powerful off healers hiding behind a furry pet with mage like single target dps. This patch we once again had our player VS environment effectiveness reduced, to the point that our combo is no longer existent with half of it being removed from the game.
But in its place we have received multiple player VS player improvements from 4.0.2 such as multiple reliable hard cc’s, a damage increase to targets while open wound is in effect; and several improvements to our pet, one of which was changing the hardest hitting spell (Shred) from physical to poison.
The builds here are mostly hybrid meaning they implement physical, caster and pet abilities/rubies and spells. In this patch hybrid is the most viable way to go, and if you try to specialise in any of the areas you will end up losing a large portion of warden damage in PvE.
Against other players though this patch we are once again a force to be reckoned with through high burst potential, potent offheals and now some reliable cc.

How to be a warden, cheat sheet explained in dot point
1. Lightning Strike/Flash or Boar’s Blow for an Offbalance
2. Maul/Mangle to create an Open Wound
3. Vortex, or Hawk Strike to trigger the Searing Pain debuff
4. Then Shred,
CONGRATULATIONS! If you can do the above, you have mastered the warden combos. If you don’t read any further than here, remember the above. If you do read further, this is only the beginning.
This recent 4.0.3 patch has killed our old combo, and left the Shred burst combo with 10.5 seconds (with rubies) of thumb twiddling boredom, or commonly known as SPAM. That’s right until Shred’s off cd, to fill in the remainder of your dps in PvE YOU HAVE TO SPAM.
The type of spam depends on the warden’s choices and personal preference so this guide is about aiding you to create your warden spam sandwich for PvE purposes. PvP I’m happy to say does not require one to eat lunch in order to play this patch, due to the buffs in that field.
This patch is heavily inclined towards melee inclined hybrids so unfortunately if you are attempting to run a pure caster/melee/or pet build you are gimping yourself dps in PvE.
Unique Warden Passives
Damage over time (DOT) generated by Mangle/Maul which increases all lightning and physical dealt to the target by 25% during its duration. It also deals 100% more damage to a MOVING target. So attempt to keep it on a target at all times.
Each Vortex generates a static charge which prevents spell casting interruption and increases the next Lightning/Storm or Tornado by 20% per stack, max of 5 stacks at once.
Our pet is unique from a summoner’s pet in that it is an actual living creature, not a mindless summoned minion that does our bidding. Its stats are based off ours so our intelligence is its strength, our wisdom is its finesse, and our perception is its expertise. The pets are your best friend as a warden and make up a large majority of your dps. They also double as a mini tank while levelling.
applied after every Shred, guarantees that the next Lightning Strike or Flash will cause the off-balance effect onto the target.
These 2 are the valuable world mystery skills that wardens learn
This skill takes all the health of the party, (pets included) then evenly distributes it between everyone. FANTASTIC life saver for parties, and PvP. You can also use it as a selfheal or a pet heal due to yourself+pet counting as a party.
WARNING- Only use in PvP, when the YOUR health and the pets health, are at reasonable amount. If not watched it can lead to your death.
Increases your movement speed by 25% for 15seonds, or 22 seconds if brewed under the effects of the medley mastery rubies, AND removes one movement impairing effect. Can be used as a cheap speed pot to get around the place if mount less, and is invaluable for PvP with a variety of uses.
Our secret warden hideaway for those times you just have the urge to snowball and port.
This is the place where we gather materials for our potions, and gain easy experience quests while levelling.
The portal is a spell which the Warden trainer in Nezebgrad/Novograd will send you to learn from a …..Mystery person, once you have reached level 7 or higher. Has a 30min cool down
Something to note with the stats below: when you’re just starting to explore the astral/new to end game, the stats will be far from the provided estimates. If you attempt to go straight to them you will end up neglecting some stats which will hurt you in the long run. Use these stat guides as estimates to aim for.
Experiment with the initial gear and tweak your stats accordingly to what YOU find provides the best dps.
I suggest you check out and download DarkDPSMeter from the Addons section of this forum, if you have not already done so. This addon will allow you to watch the changes in your damage.
Determines the critical/glance rating for all heals and damage dealt, a highly important stat but its effectiveness is determined by the target’s endurance. Most likely with our rubies as they provide +15% luck you don’t need much more than 60- 65% tops in end game.
Generally the greater this stat the better; this is the base of the damage and healing for all abilities. This shouldn’t be excessively high at the cost of the other stats, as a balance of all the major stats is very important to get the most out of your damage and healing.
This stat is reasonable for the modification of all damage and healing caused by the warden. The damage modification is determined by the difference between your wisdom and targets agility when using magic damage, and they’re armour for physical damage. A good measure for end game wisdom is 25-35%.
Perception plays a double role on a warden, as it affects how much of your caster damage is resisted AND determines your physical attacks/pet miss rate. About 18-20% is around the normal max you would require as a warden in end game for PvE. In PvP however it is recommended you experiment with different variations of wisdom and perception (heal modifiers, also perception affects Shred damage this patch).
A quick mention here for the choice of warden weapon
The traditional 2 handed spear or staff has been a warden’s friend for well over a year, due to the caster nature and reliance on Channelled Lightning rubies working. However this patch all requirements for those weapon no longer exists.
As such wardens can freely choose to use 1 handed weapons, maces, hammers. Staffs, spears. Or claws/paired fist. The ONLY warden specific rubies are those which are now found in the Wolf’s Blow tree, and clearly state ‘increase physical damage by 1handed weapons’, ‘2 handed weapons.’ or ‘claw/paired fist’.
So chose your weapon based off its damage range if you wish to be extremely melee based, or chose it for its stats.
