General Newcomer's Guide to Allods Online

I decided to write a simple guide aimed towards those that have just discovered Allods Online. It's purpose is not to give you detailed information but only to complement guides already given on this website under the "GAME" tab as well as impressive guides written by experienced players.

My wish is that all new players can get a true feel of what can be experienced here at Allods. I very much love it here from the fun gameplay to the friendly community and want to share the same enjoyment with all of you.

If you have any questions you need answered by a friendly face, don't hesitate to PM me and I'll do what I can. Also, if you have any suggestions, friendly comments about this guide or spotted any mistakes, please do reply back to this thread. Thank you. :]

Why Allods Online?

To begin with, I’d like to highlight some points about why it is that Allods could be the F2P MMO you’ve been searching for. This I feel is important because if we have positive expectations and vibe of a newly found game, we are more likely to enjoy it and look forward to later aspects, thus maintaining a drive to play on without getting bored.

So keep these in mind:
Allods surprises countless players for its high quality and yet being a free to play game.
A quest based MMO where grinding mobs for experience is a thing of the past.
The races and classes are unique. Ever thought of playing a class where you control 3 adorable fur balls known as Gibberlings?
Possesses lore of great depth for those literature lovers and roleplayers.
Cash shop will not overpower players. And even though it may take some effort, all cash shop items can be obtained in-game without spending any real money!
Casual player friendly with our unique fatigue system.
Suitable for both PvE and PvP players. PvP can start as soon as you enter the mainland in arenas. Open world PvP begins at level 23 when arenas are no longer necessary. However, if you’re not a fan of PvP, just turn off your flag of war and continue to enjoy your PvE experience.
Level 40 cap means that the game becomes less of a race to see who is the higher level as a greater proportion of players will be able to reach the max level.
Astral ships to explore the mysterious astral space and other Allods with your friends from level 35 and onwards ensures an enjoyable end-game.
Great community with friendly GMs and Astral Scholars. I promise: we don’t bite.

Getting Started

There are several versions of Allods Online. They have different client versions so make sure not to mistake one for the other.

US Client Download Link

Which version to pick for an English speaking player? An EU version as well as this NA version are both available to you. Either is fine, it all depends on your preference really and lag issues shouldn’t be noticeable if you decide to play in a version outside your region.

Although I live in the UK, I decided to remain in the NA version as I’ve grown fond of the lively community here. :]

Creating your Character

2 factions: League and Empire. You’re probably familiar with the cliche of an epic war between good and evil. Well this is basically the case here.

Decisions about which to pick can be based upon several reasons: the general kind of community found on either faction, type of quests obtained, scenery and which your friends are playing on.

Classes are known as archetypes and different races can have the same archetype. If for example you want to play a healer on the League faction, you can either decide to be an Elven healer or a Kanian healer. The only difference between archtypes of different races is appearance and special racial abilities

View the archetype grid here

Deciding classes based on roles:
Image

If you're used to WoW, there are some notable differences such as:
o Healer class can wear plate at level 30, can melee and ranged dps, and off-tank too. Requires different specs but possible.
o Summoners can party-heal really well, like a Warlock in WoW with pets, but a healer too.
o Paladins like in WoW, can tank, dps and possesses healer specs.
o Wardens, the hunter equivalent can also off-heal.

o When creating Wardens, you must name the pet as well.
o When creating Gibberlings, you must name all 3, but your IGN will be that of the main (middle) Gibberling.
o Some classes have low damage to begin with but it picks up later on.
o The racial ability can be gained from a quest at level 7.

Taking the First Step

You’ll start your journey in a tutorial mode, very much like a single player scenario. This will teach you the basics in an impressive way, uncommon to other MMOs around.

o Aim to complete the tutorial in one go. Otherwise, character progression will be lost. No worries though as this only takes around 10-20 min.
o During the tutorial mode, you’ll be isolated from other players to give you some peace when getting to grips with Allods game-play.
o You can still whisper to friends already in-game (provided they are in the same server and faction as you).

Useful Commands

Press enter to activate the chat box, type these commands followed by enter again.

Chat commands:
/say [message] — this is the default setting so you probably won’t need to type out /say. Use to talk with players in your immediate surroundings
/zone [message] — to talk with players in the same region/map
/whisper [name] [message] — keeping it private
/party [message]
/raid [message]
/guild [message]

Physical emote commands (there is a whole list of them but here are some of my fav):
/dance — unique to race and gender
/wave
/kiss
/afk — unique to race
/sleep

o Remember you cannot communicate with people on your opposing faction.

Starting Zone

This is where your character will be teleported upon completing the tutorial. You’ll be able to join fellow players starting Allods Online. Complete quests by talking with NPCs with “!” above their heads, socialise in zone chat and make friends, and even roam around viewing the scenery, whatever fits your taste.

o Not all of the quests found are required to be completed but as questing is the main way to level, it would be best to do so.
o Pressing 'T' highlights intractable objects so tapping this while running around may make it easier for you to identify scarce quest items lying around.
o Some quests are repeatable. These raise your reputation which, after certain values, can allow you to buy special equipment from quartermaster NPCs.
o Killing seems too slow? Party up! You'll get to meet new people and kill much faster. Getting rep gear from quartermasters should make your character considerably stronger.
o Parties can have a max of 6 people. They can be converted into a raid which holds a max of 24 people. Only the leader of the party can convert it into a raid by right clicking on their portrait, top left corner of the screen.

Fatigue System

Beware: If you’re more of a hardcore player, you probably won’t enjoy this system as much as casual players.

Fatigue is “extra” EXP gained alongside normal EXP from killing mobs or completing quests. This fatigue EXP can be cashed in and converted to normal EXP by talking to an innkeeper and resting at the inn.

    Image

Say if a mob usually gives 100 EXP when killed, you'll gain 100 purple EXP and 100 fatigue EXP, i.e. 200 EXP altogether which is double than what you would have gained.

However, we can only accumulate a certain amount of fatigue EXP per day—the limit is known as our fatigue cap which increases as we level up. This increase you'll see after the daily reset and depends on your level at the time of the reset. But on top of that, every time we gain a level, our fatigue cap raises by 900 EXP right on the spot!

After we finish our day’s worth of fatigue, all we gain is the normal purple EXP and so levelling beyond this point becomes too inefficient and is therefore unwise.

It pretty much prevents power-levelling. We’re almost forced to stop levelling after a period of playing Allods and either get back to reality, play on alts, or just enjoy other aspects of Allods apart from gaining EXP.

o Fatigue cap resets everyday at 8pm PST. (May change for OB.)
o You won’t lose your accumulated fatigue EXP if you log off.
o It's recommended that you rest at a innkeeper before you log out, just in case you miss the reset time and the fatigue cap resets. This way you can get the most out of it.

FAQ

—As of Feb 19, we cannot split stacks of items (i.e. to trade some pages to another person when you have duplicates). The only workaround is to vendor the items, then use the 'buy back' tab, which will sell you just one of them, auction or trade it, then buy back the next one you want, etc.

We cannnot hit 'r' to reply, at the moment we need to click their name or type it out in full: /whisper [name] [message].

There is no minimap. It's a design decision so we actually pay attention to the game world. Besides, pressing 'M' is easy enough.

We cannot auto-attack in Allods because it's unnecessary when we gain many more skills to use. Auto-attack uses energy just like any other attack so we're better off saving it for use with special skills.

There are no mounts (for movement speed) yet. There are awesome Astral ships though.

I could throw in some useful FAQs though, but I do wonder how many will actually read it. ^^'

I have a question you could put in your FAQ.. if you make one...

Does the fatigue cap increase if you level up? The guide says that the fatigue cap is proportional to our level. Does that mean the level we are when the fatigue resets, or does the cap change as we level up?
